Reactive Oxygen Species

Reactive Oxygen Species — highly reactive, oxygen-containing molecules such as free radicals and peroxides that form as normal byproducts of cell metabolism and in response to triggers like UV light and pollution. At low levels they aid cell signaling, but when they accumulate faster than the skin can neutralize them they contribute to oxidative stress that damages lipids, proteins, and DNA.
